Academia

· Critical thinking is emphasised in every lesson, encouraging students to think about the material they study from different angles.

· While acting as both a writing and history teacher, a focus is to give some idea of the syntax needed in academic papers. Being literary, also, in lessons on that subject the aim is to awaken the imagination of students, through such concepts as defamiliarization.

· Curriculums have largely bee self-designed, emphasising coursework, as well as in-class writing. In alignment with AP expectations, self-produced multiple-choice exams have been combined with written exams.

Evaluation

· Teaching in Beijing at the Veritas school particularly enhanced listening and judgemental abilities. In classes, grammatical, pronunciational and rhetorical weaknesses were pinpointed in order to give accurate marks and advice.

· In teaching a subject such as history, concepts have to be purveyed and evaluated sufficiently, which means to make sure that specific language and concrete examples support every idea.

· Teaching in Asia has illustrated how to identify the most common pronunciational, grammatical and syntactical mistakes that students make and know how to help rectify them.

Organisation

· Time-management in class is an important quality. For instance, lessons are prepared carefully, allotting how much time will be spent lecturing and how long the students will go about tasks.

· PowerPoint classes are a favoured method, cementing and guiding the lesson whilst giving a visual scope.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I am a bibliophile and never happier than when reading a literary or historical book. I have also published several short stories in magazines, one novel called In Search of the Leader, and two anthologies of short stories.
